Mississippi Ornithological Society Newsletter
The Mississippi Ornithological Society publishes two newsletter issues annually to inform members of upcoming meetings and birding events and to present other articles of interest to the birding community. The editor invites you to participate by submitting articles and/or photographs for possible publication in the newsletter. Some suggested topics for articles include birding trips (including out-of-state trips), birding locales, life bird experiences, special birding events, and any interesting story or information about birds or bird behavior. Articles may be sent in any time of the year. Photos can be submitted for documentation or sheer enjoyment. Documentation photos do not need to be works of art – just sharp enough to identify unusual sightings.
Articles may be sent to the Editor, Jacob Wessels, by email (preferred) at jacoblwessels [at] gmail.com . Alternatively, you may mail physical documents to Jacob Wessels, Box 9690, Mississippi State, MS 39762.

Ben Coffey’s Mid-South Bird Notes
Ben B. Coffey, Jr. was a pioneering amateur ornithologist based in Memphis, Tennessee. He and his wife Lula made a significant early contribution toward documenting the bird life of Mississippi and other nearby states. Dr. Jerome A. Jackson compiled Coffey’s self-distributed “Mid-South Bird Notes” (originally written 1952 to 1956) into a volume published by the Mississippi Ornithological Society in 1981.
