Mississippi Bird Records Committee

The Mississippi Bird Records Committee of MOS maintains an archive that includes information about all rare birds occurring in the state, plus information about the seasonal distribution of more common species.

The Mississippi Bird Records Committee solicits and evaluates information about all rare and out-of-season birds reported in Mississippi. The committee requests that detailed descriptions, field notes, photographs, and/or recordings be submitted with reports, for evaluation and verification of records and to maintain the quality of the bird records archive.

The committee meets annually, votes on records, and publishes an annual report on its activities in The Mississippi Kite.

The Review List contains species that are considered rare in Mississippi, as well as others whose status in Mississippi is poorly documented, making further information on their status and distribution helpful.

All records received will be considered for possible inclusion in the regional (Alabama/Mississippi) report in North American Birds and in “Birds Around the State,” a twice-annual compilation of notable birds seen in Mississippi that is published in the MOS Newsletter.
